These three drawings capture a clear progression: from practicing with simple shapes to taking on the complexity of the human form. The cone and the cylinder became the foundation. They were exercises in shading, highlights, and shadows, each stroke training my eye to see how light transforms flat outlines into dimensional objects.
The final piece, the hand, carries the lessons forward. Unlike the clean geometry of the cone and cylinder, the hand introduces irregularity and subtlety. Every bend of a knuckle and curve of a fingertip requires patience and precision. The earlier practice pieces gave me the discipline to capture depth here, where the form is far less forgiving.
Together, these works remind me that complexity always grows from simplicity. Before tackling the intricacies of a hand, I first had to understand the quiet weight of a cone and the steady volume of a cylinder.
