Landscapes and Layers of Imagination
Project type
Oil Painting
Date
May 2025
Location
San Ramon, California
These three oil paintings each capture a different side of my relationship with nature and imagination.
The first, a coastal scene, came from standing on a cliffside and watching the tide shift against the land. The sky and water share the same energy—one calm, one restless—and painting that tension became a lesson in balance.
The second, a pond surrounded by trees and a wooden pavilion, is a quieter world. It reflects the peace that comes from stillness, where movement slows and colors soften. I wanted the piece to feel like a pause, a breath between moments.
The third, an abstract composition of bright planes and floating forms, moves away from realism entirely. You may recognize it from the background of this website’s home page. It was an experiment in rhythm and color, inspired by how imagination distorts what we see. The shapes suggest movement and form, but nothing is fixed.
Together, these paintings trace the path from observation to abstraction—from how the world looks to how it feels.
